The service
Skad is a tool for planning a course and sharing it: a map to draw on, waypoints to mark, and pages to hand to runners and volunteers. Using it means accepting these terms.
It is in beta. Things change, occasionally break, and get fixed. We do not promise it will be available at any particular moment, so do not make it the only copy of something you need on race morning: the print pack exists for exactly that reason.
Your account
One account per person, with a real address you can receive email at. Keep the password to yourself: anything done from your account is treated as done by you. Tell us if you think someone else is in it.
What you draw stays yours
Courses, waypoints, events, and the words you write around them are yours. We claim no ownership of any of it.
Sharing something gives us the permission we need to show it to the people holding the link: to display a shared course on its share page and in its embed on other people's sites, and to show a published event on its runner page. That permission covers hosting and displaying what you shared, nothing else, and it ends when you take the course private or delete it.
Only publish a course you have the right to publish, and do not route people across private land you have no permission to cross.
Acceptable use
Do not use Skad to harass anyone, to publish someone else's private information, or to post anything unlawful. Do not attack the service, scrape it wholesale, or try to reach data that is not yours.
The crew code protects other people's volunteers. Guessing at it, or handing it to people it was not meant for, is not on.
Safety, and what a course is not
A course drawn in Skad is a plan. It is not a survey, not a guarantee that a path exists, not proof that it is passable or legal to be on, and not a promise about what the weather will do. Distances, climb, and estimated times are calculated from map data and will differ from the ground.
Publishing a course here is not Skad certifying it. The organizer is responsible for their event: for reconnaissance, for the medical and safety plan, for permissions, and for the decisions taken on the day. If you are running someone else's course, you are responsible for your own judgement about whether to be out there.
Nothing on this site is safety advice, and the forecast shown on a course page is a third party's best guess.
Paying for an event
Drawing courses is free. Taking an event live costs €29 once and covers one edition of that event, from payment until a month after its last day: the runner page, the crew page, and the print pack. You can move the date after paying, inside the window you paid for; moving it further is the next edition. Renewing the same event afterwards is €19. Prices are shown without tax; VAT is added at checkout, and Stripe issues the invoice. There is no subscription and nothing renews on its own.
A month after the event, the public and crew pages stop resolving. Nothing is deleted: the event, its course, and its stations wait for a renewal, and your routes are yours either way.
Offers such as a free first event apply while they are advertised and on the terms stated with them. Pricing has the current numbers.
Refunds
You can have any event payment back in full within fourteen days of paying, for any reason. Email hello@skad.run from the address on your account, naming the event, and we refund it to the card you paid with. The refund closes the edition: its public and crew pages stop resolving, and the event itself stays in your account. After fourteen days the payment is final.
Our own mistakes have no deadline. If a payment was taken and the event did not go live, or you were charged twice for the same edition, write to us whenever you notice and we will put it right. Nothing here removes a right to a refund that the law gives you and does not let you waive. The refund policy walks through the cases.
Liability
Skad is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for what happens on a course, for decisions taken on the strength of a map, or for losses that follow from the service being unavailable or a page being wrong.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
Ending it
Delete your account whenever you like, from your account page: it takes your routes and events with it. We may suspend an account that is breaking these terms, and will say why.
Changes to these terms
These terms will change as Skad does. The date at the top says when they last did. If a change matters to you, for example a change to what an event costs or what happens to your data, we will say so by email before it takes effect.
